Two Fours win ends a mixed week for Holt

Posted by Wayne Simmonds on 11 June 2019

Sunday night's 59-25 shot win over Spencer Melksham in the National club two fours gave us a positve ending to what was a mixed week in terms of results for the club.

We started off by completing a strong 14-0 (98.5-55 on shots) win over Pewsey Vale in the Wilts four rink league, on Wednesday evening, to maintain our unbeaten run and make it 6 wins from 6. The win see's us leapgrog Salisbury and Avon in the league table, to move into second place, just two points behind last year's winners Chippenham Town. Playing with two triples, we had to lose 25% of our score on two of the rinks, however this didn't affect the end result, which saw us pick up the maximum points.

Rink Scores

D. Rose, W. Simmonds and W. Snook won 31.5-9 against V. Kimber

P. Barnes, M. Tucker and B. Gadd won 21-15 against R. Pearce

M. Barker, G. Archard, M. Oliver and K. Oliver won 27-13 against M. Munon

A. Mizen, H. Davis, T. Keating and J. Davis won 19-18 against K. Bew

Our second match of the week saw us take on Chippenham Town A at Chippenham. Unfortunately we were again not able to field a full side and went into the game one short, knowing that we would have to subsequently forfeit 25% of our score on one rink.

Nevertheless, the lads showed real determination to win on three of the four rinks, however with the reduction of 25% on one of the rinks, our total shots were reduced, meaning that we lost out on the overall aggregate win by 0.75 of a shot., which is extreamley rare and unfortunate for our lads.

We did however come away with 6 points which was great, although being 0.75 shots away from 12 points was hard to take.

Rink Scores

D. Anderson, G. Archard and C. Moore won 18-14 against W. Donald

A. Mizen, J. Davis and P. Barnes won 14-13 against R. Workmans

W. Snook and M. Tucker lost 11.75-21 against R. Button

G. Potton, H. Davis and M. Barker won 17-13 against R. Pope

Saturday then saw us take on Amesbury in the Wilts three rink league, which was again to prove a tight contest, but one which was played in the best spirit. Like Thursday, we again came out close runners-up as we lost the game by 3 shots overall (56-59) and 4-6 on points. We were looking to make it 5 wins out of 5 in the Wilts three rink league and although we came close, it was another story of 'so close, yet so far'

Rink Scores

D. Rose, D. Stevens, M. Tucker and B. Gadd won 18-15 against S. Mitchell

G. Potton, D. Griffin, C. Moore and W. Simmonds won 27-19 against N. Gould

A. Mizen, P. Barnes, M. Barker and M. Oliver lost 11-25 against M. Crook

Our busy schedule then ended with a strong win in the National two fours competition, against local team Spencer Melksham, on Sunday evening. The lads dominated from the start and took early leads on both rinks and with only a handful of ends to go on the game the match was conceded with Holt clinching the win by 34 shots (59-25). We will now take on either Pewsey Vale or Wellworthy (Dorset) in the next round, which we will be at home for.
